Directory of Synagogue Committees and Initiatives

Arts, Culture and Education (ACE).
Chair: Gilda Love.

Plans and implements all aspects of art, cultural, and education programming. Offerings are open to congregants and the community and include concerts, guest lectures, young artist performances, art exhibitions, study groups with the Rabbi, and the monthly book discussion club held in the homes of congregants.

B'nai Mitzvah Liaison.
Facilitator : Lisa Lynch. Adrienne Feller Novick.

Works closely with B'nai Mitzvah families, the Rabbi, and the school Principal to ensure that obligations and expectations are clearly understood in the early planning and preparatory phase. Provides supportive educational resources.

Board Development.
Chair: Cathy Bezozo.

A special training project under the auspices of UJA to help our RCBE Board become more proficient and effective in the discharge of its responsibilities.

Finance.
Chair: Seth Hochman, Treasurer.

Manages the fiscal affairs of the synagogue that include developing the budget, and the monitoring of all revenues and expenditures.

Fund Raising
Chair: Executive Board.

Develops and implements strategies for generating revenues that support synagogue operations. This includes special gifts, capital endowments, and special events.

Hakol Shel Emeth.
Editor in Chief: Lois Mills.

The synagogue newsletter, "The Voice of Emeth," is published quarterly throughout the year (except July/August when a combined issue is published).

Hand Up.
Chair: Marsha Ander.

To assist members of the congregation who may have special needs related to illness, death, loss, disability etc. and to provide hands-on support and help.

House Operations.
Chairs: Tzemach Rayches, Eugene Falik.

Identifies areas in the building and grounds of needed repair, maintenance and improvement. Develops mechanisms to manage and implement these operations. Works closely with maintenance staff and the Finance Committee.

JRF Liaison.
Chairs: Lois and Cy Mills.

Provides linkages between the Jewish Reconstructionist Federation and RCBE that include information about JRF regional and national programming in service of the continued growth and development of the congregation.

Legal Advisement and Counsel.
Chair: Gary Carlton.

Provides the synagogue with legal counsel and advises in matters of the constitution, contract negotiations, taxation, and finance. Facilitates the nominations and elections of Trustees and Board Officers.

Membership.
Chairs: Inreach: Joel Goldfarb; Outreach: Larry Moelis.

To help promote the involvement of our members in the life of our congregation and to foster the development of a caring community. To do what needs to be done to assure retention of our members.
To consider innovative ways of reaching out to the unaffiliated and to help promote the growth of RCBE

Music.
Chair: Paul Shelden.

This committee brings congregants with musical abilities into congregational musical participation in line with Reconstructionist ideals. Dr. Shelden works with experienced musicians in the congregation in order to bring in others and to arrange musical interpretive works into the services -- throughout the congregational year. All are welcome to participate, from advanced beginner to professional. Teenagers are especially invited. The committee also works with the Hebrew School administration to bring all together in this project.

Religious School Board.
Chair: Suzie Hagen.

Works closely with the school Principal, Rabbi, and faculty to provide opportunities for the school families to become involved and have an impact on formal and informal educational programs.

Religious Affairs.
Chairs: Marty Haber and Marilyn Schamroth.

Working closely with the Rabbi, identifies and examines key elements in ritual practice and observance that enhance meaningful religious practice, spirituality, and Jewish identity for all congregants. Develops processes that integrate these elements into services and life cycle events.

Special Events.
Chair: Judy Schneider.

Prepares for special events at the synagogue.

Tikkun Olam.
Chairs: Charlie Roemer.

Develops and implements initiatives that enact tzedakah (justice) and gimilut hasadim (acts of loving kindness) within the congregation and surrounding community, religious and secular. Supports and impacts the B'nai Mitzvah projects and religious school programming.

Web Site.
Webmaster: Eugene Falik.

Maintains the synagogue web site.
