Religious School Student Policies

1. Attendance
Children are expected to arrive on time to all class sessions. When a child has been absent, he or she must bring in a note from the parent at the following session.

All work missed must be made up. Each student is responsible for finding out what work was covered the day(s) he or she was absent. This should be done by speaking with the teacher or contacting another student in the class.

Consistent attendance is very important to your child's success. PLEASE TRY TO SCHEDULE DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENTS, ETC. DURING DAYS AND TIMES WHEN RELIGIOUS SCHOOL IS NOT IN SESSION.

Students who are absent a disproportionate amount of time may be asked to complete extra assignments in order to compensate for missed classes.

Those students who attain perfect or almost perfect attendance will be recognized with incentive awards.

2. Early Dismissal
In the event that your child must leave school before dismissal time, the following procedures must be followed:
    a) The student must bring a note from the parent giving the details of the early dismissal. The note should be given to the teacher.
    b) The parent must come into the building and sign the child out of school. A special sign-out book will be in the main hallway for this purpose.
    c) A staff member will then proceed to the classroom to pick up your child.
    d) Under no circumstances may a student arrange to leave the building unattended and wait for a parent in the parking lot.

3. Dismissal Procedures
(Aleph - Vav)
Dismissal is a most hectic time for parents and children. Please follow the following procedures in order to guarantee the safety and welfare of all of our children. Please come on time so that your child will not become anguished and upset.
    a) Please park your car and come into the synagogue at the school entrance.
    b) If you arrive before 6:15 PM, please wait in the social hall and help yourself to a cup of coffee. When classes are dismissed, I will come get you.
    c) At 6:15 PM, parents will pick up their children at their classrooms. Students will not be permitted to leave their classroom without a parent.

4. Arriving Late
Class starts promptly at 4:14 PM. When a student arrives late for a class they should report directly to the classroom and ask the teacher to adjust the attendance record accordingly. Coming in late and leaving early disrupt the learning process. Please make every effort to avoid this.

5. Snacks
Students may bring a kosher snack to our Religious School. In order to develop a positive atmosphere of learning at RCBE, food may only be eaten at snack time which will be determined by the teacher. All refuse will be thrown out immediately. Gum chewing is not permitted during school hours.

6. Homework
We take into account the many demands made upon your children; but for continuity's sake, preparation and review are necessary. Hence, students are expected to complete and hand in all homework at its due date.

7. Dress
Proper dress at Religious School is important to create the proper atmosphere for study at a holy institution. Students should dress neatly and refrain from wearing tank tops, short shorts, halter tops, etc. We will periodically be learning prayers in the Chapel during class time and children should be dressed accordingly. All students should wear Kippot. Hats are not permitted.

8. Snow Alert
In the event of school cancellations due to inclement weather the following radio stations will announce our closings:
WHLI - 1100AM
WGBB - 1240AM
WKJY - 98.3 FM
WGBB - 102.3 FM

It is through the idealism of youth that man catches sight of the truth, and in that idealism he possesses a wealth which he must never exchange for anything else.
