The Mission of Our Hebrew School

Our Hebrew School curriculum will provide students with a comprehensive background in Jewish history, holidays and language so that, as adults, they will make informed decisions concerning their own Jewish lives. This will occur in a manner so that each student and his or her family may achieve a fulfilling and evolving level of familiarity and involvement.
We will strive to develop students who understand that Judaism is a continually evolving religious civilization. We will foster identification with the community. Our curriculum will reflect our long history of music, art, culture, literature, and tradition, and will include respect of the environment. Our aim is to create an egalitarian, innovative, and nurturing atmosphere, which will ultimately inspire our students to live according to Jewish values.

Goals

To provide our children with a solid foundation in Hebrew reading, writing and oral language
To familiarize our children with Shabbat and Holiday rituals and traditions
To teach a Reconstructionist philosophy, which encourages students to question, explore, learn and become involved in Judaism and Jewish culture
To study Torah, history and culture
To make our children synagogue literate
To provide an interactive learning environment
To provide conscious opportunities to perform mitzvot and give tzedaka
To incorporate a family education model in curriculum
To prepare children for Bar and Bat Mitzvah and encourage their continued Jewish education
TO EXCITE CHILDREN SO THAT THEY WANT TO PARTICIPATE IN OUR Hebrew School PROGRAM AND CONGREGATIONAL COMMUNITY
