Shalom:
As the tragedy in Haiti continues to unfold before our eyes, many of us feel
by a sense of helplessness. But, we are not helpless. We may not be able to go to
Haiti ourselves, but we can help those who are there struggling tirelessly to save
those who still survive, to treat the injured and help those whose lives have been
shattered become whole again. Relief supplies are now flowing in to Haiti thanks
to the airlift by the United Nations, the United States and other nations. Among
the nations that have provided relief workers we can be most proud of the State of
Israel which was one of the first countries to respond and sent an entire, fully
functioning field hospital. Israel knows all too well how to deal with mass trauma
such as that which has struck Haiti and for the first few days the Israeli field
hospital was the only facility equipped to perform life saving surgeries. You can

There are many questions about the long term ability of Haiti to recover from this tragedy and there are numerous organizations that were already working in Haiti to create sustainability projects that would improve the quality of life and environment for all Haitians. More and more we now understand that the scope of the devastation was compounded by the lack of forestation and infrastructure in Haiti.
